People no longer wait until the 6 o’clock to get the news. According to recent Pew Research Centre survey more than eight-in-ten U.S. adults (86%) say they get news from a smartphone, computer, or tablet.
The pressure of the attention economy and a 24/7 multi-channel news cycle is testing the mettle of journalists and media groups. Competing for the attention economy reduces opportunities for the media to monetise their content, forcing digital transformation upon traditional media sources.
The power of the algorithm
In 2020, most U.S. adults got their news from digital platforms, with 68% saying they used news websites and apps. 65% used search engines to look up topics they’re interested in and 53% used social media for news. Increasingly algorithms play a role in the content delivered to individuals based on their stated preferences for content or search or algorithm-driven results.
The expanding role of digital platforms
Facebook News is one example of the growing influence of social media on the news. In January 2021, Facebook launched an app-based news-reading solution in the U.S. and U.K., collecting articles from prestigious news outlets. Its stated goal is to promote authoritative journalism and fight disinformation.

Please, sir, I want some more
When Oliver Twist asked, "Please, sir, I want some more," it's not because he was enjoying the gruel he consumed. It's because he was still hungry. Instead of offering a measly bowl of gruel to the media (in the form of a few Media Releases), use your Lookatmedia™ centre to create and publish a veritable banquet of flavoursome and nourishing content that leaves journalists, media representatives and influencers satisfied…yet always hungry for more.
